Skin Protection – Moiturizers and Sunscreens

Moiturizers and sunscreens use Vitamin C, which protects the skin from UV damage and vitamin E, which repairs rough skin. But dermatological studies led by American specialist Dr. Sheldon Pinnell show that, when coupled with ferulic acid(a discovered by-product of plants), vitamins C and E become more stable and far more effective. The result: Skin gets double the protection from the sun-screens.

Chemists working for the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) developed a biodegradable, non-toxic sunscreen called SoyScreen. SoyScreen could lead to a new class of cosmetic ingredients. It was developed by using an enzyme-based method to make an all-natural sunscreen from soy oil and ferulic acid, a natural antioxidant that filters out UVA and UVB sunlight. In February 2007, a variation of SoyScreen developed by Illinois-based iSoy Technologies started to be sold as a key active ingredient in a wrinkle-prevention skincare product. This soybean-based ingredient should soon appear in cleansers, haircare products, anti-aging and protective soaps.

It doesn’t matter if you are male or female. We all get wrinkles as we grow older. It may be at an early age for some, or at an older age for others. Some use wrinkle creams to lessen the lines that can be seen on their faces. But of course, you have to look for the best wrinkle cream that would also be healthy or beneficial for your skin. Some are even beneficial to your whole body since it also helps lower cholesterol or reduce toxins in the body.

Tattoo Removal

Posted by admin | General,Mens Health,Public Health,Services,Skin Care,Womens Health | Sunday 9 August 2009 9:11 am

Some people love tattoos. They like having at least one type of drawing on their bodies. Some even have the name of their special someone on their arm or chest to show them how important they are. Some have some kind of artistic drawing or even a type of animal they like tattooed on them. I wonder if they start feeling that they want it changed or removed? Some may want to have a newer tattoo over their old one. There are treatment centers that do tattoo removal. You can have the old tattoo removed then you can have another one put on it. Some will just have them removed without replacing it. If someone is already embarrassed with the tattoo on his body, he can have it removed.

If you are wondering what will happen when the tattoo is removed or what type of procedure is involved, you can always check some tattoo removal information to know what really happens with the process. One of the processes available is the laser treatment. The laser would target the ink without harming the skin. Only the ink used for the tattoo will be harmed. I think laser removal is the best at this time. It does not feel painful and a professional will be doing the removal. I guess lasers have become more than just a skin treatment for acne or scars.

Hair Loss and Baldness

I still remember the time when my father told my mother that his scalp is often itchy. After a few weeks my father started experiencing hair loss. My father started showing signs of frustration and was always worried, so my mother suggested that he consult a hair loss doctor. The doctor told my father not to worry since the hair loss caused by itchy scalp is not always permanent, and will often grow back once the main itchy scalp problem is sorted out. The doctor also told my parents that it is always vital to take swift action to properly diagnose the problem and search for suitable remedies and treatments in order to avoid long term scarring from the itchy scalp irritation, and thus enable the hair to begin growing back. True enough, my father’s hair began growing back after his scalp stopped itching.

Things that may cause hair loss:
Excessive hair loss can be caused by hormonal problems if female or male hormones (estrogens and androgens) are out of balance. Correcting the hormone imbalance may stop your hair loss. Your hair may also fall out if your thyroid gland is overactive or underactive.

Medicines like antidepressants, birth control pills, blood thinners, medicines used in chemotherapy, medicines for gout, too much Vitamin A can cause hair loss. There should be improvement in this type hair loss when you stop taking the medicine. Your doctor may also be able to prescribe a different medicine.

You may suddenly lose a large amount of hair about 4 months after a major surgery or an illness. This hair loss is temporary and is related to the stress of the illness. It may also be an early sign of a disease since hair loss may occur as part of an underlying disease, such as diabetes or lupus.

Certain infections like fungal infection can cause hair loss. Treatment with antifungal medicines should easily stop the infection.

Common Baldness, Permanent-Pattern Baldness or Male-Pattern Baldness - Male-pattern baldness is the most common cause of hair loss in men. Men who have this type of hair loss usually have inherited the trait. Men who start losing their hair at an early age tend to develop more extensive baldness. Women may develop female-pattern baldness. In this form of hair loss, the hair can become thin over the entire scalp. In male-pattern baldness, hair loss typically results in a receding hair line and baldness on the top of the head.

Male-Pattern Baldness may come as a surprise, but it is no mystery. You can still have a natural-looking hair, thanks to the continual refinements in hair restoration surgery and proven medical therapies. One hair restoration surgery technique is follicular unit transplantation (hair plugs), which involves the removal of donor follicles from the back of the head (where hair tends to be more permanent). Once removed, the “donor area” is then stitched back up with no visible scarring. Next, the donor follicles are transplanted into the “problem areas” of the patient’s balding scalp.

Male-Pattern Baldness can also be treated by hair transplant which a surgical technique that involves moving skin containing hair follicles from one part of the body (the donor site) to bald or balding parts (the recipient site). Follicular Unit Transplantation which is a modern hair transplantation can achieve a natural appearance by mimicking nature hair for hair.

Choosing a hair transplant doctor

  • The hair transplant doctor you choose should have had formal training in dermatology. This specialization is important to understand the cause of hair loss, baldness and hormonal imbalance.
  • Ask the doctor if he only do hair transplants or does he also do other surgical procedures like liposuction, face lifts, cosmetic procedures or fat tucks . It is important to find a doctor that specializes or only do hair transplants.
  • Since hair transplants are not major surgeries, ask the physician to see one of his procedures to check the validity of the doctor’s claim of experience.
  • References from past patients of the doctor are also a good way to decide whether the doctor you have chosen is right for you.
  • Some doctors with less experience charge high fees.
  • Make sure the doctor you choose is a member of various medical societies.

You can have your hair transplant when these criteria’ s are met. Hair transplant is permanent and an affordable procedure to get back your lost hair. More people are seeking treatment for hair loss despite the worldwide economic downturn in 2008 to look younger and to gain more self-confidence.

Here are some of the health benefits of Organic Apple Cider Vinegar

1. Regular intake of cider vinegar and honey is said to provide relief to those suffering from arthritis and painful joints. Apple cider vinegar also promotes digestion and neutralizes any toxic substance taken into the body. Consumption of about 2 teaspoons of apple cider vinegar in a glass of water can restore natural clotting properties of blood.

Apple cider vinegar benefits those suffering from eczema and ear discharge. Apple cider vinegar is said to have miraculous effects on those suffering from hair loss by taking care of tissue salt deficiency.

3. Apple Cider Vinegar offers health benefits against digestive upsets and food poisoning. It is also effective for urinary tract infections and lowering high blood pressure. Due to the eliminative nature of cider vinegar, the kidneys and bladder can benefit from consumption of two teaspoons of cider vinegar in a glass of water about 5 times a day.

4. The health benefits of apple cider vinegar extend to skin lesions and healing wounds. Poultices of cider vinegar can be applied to a stubborn open wound. Minding your Facial Habits

As we age, we all have to deal with the inevitable facial lines. Lines and weak muscles start minutely, but did you know that we are responsible for putting age lines in our face ourselves? Certain habits cause premature aging of the face and weak muscle tone. They are generally unconscious habits developed over the years. Check these facial habits and be conscious to alter these reflexes.

1 Frowning.
Frequent frowning can turn into a permanent frown. If you frown when you read, you might need a pair of glasses. WorriedFrown

2 Rubbing eyes.
We all rub our eyes but if you are rubbing too often and too hard, see your doctor to test for allergies. Continued rubbing of your eyes can break down the tissue of the eyelids leading to prematurely loose skin.

3 Not wearing sunglassses.
The sun causes us to squint and chronic squinting creates and deepens lines around our eyes.

4 Blowing nose too hard.
If you have a cold, or sinus, don’t rub hard or twist the skin around the nose and mouth area. Excessive stretching of the skin can loose the delicate fibers of the epidermis and cause wrinkles.

5 Sinking your face down in a pillow when sleeping.
As you grow older, early morning lines in your face take longer and longer to fade and eventually become permanent.

Care for your Tresses

Beauty is said to be skin deep. So goes with having a beautiful, healthy hair. Healthy hair is essentially ‘dead’ at its length, but is actually attached to a living, reproducing structure- the root, which is situated just below the surface of the scalp. Living cells within the root produce hair and, if not properly nourished, their ability to make hair is badly affected.

A variety of nutrients are needed to maintain a healthy, beautiful hair:

Vitamin A. This is needed to enable cells to divide and replicate normally. A lack of Vitamin A can lead to dry hair and skin, while too much can cause inflammation of the follicle. Vitamin A is present in orange fruit and leafy vegetables, whole milk, margarine, and eggs.
Minerals. Copper is needed for hair structure and can be found in milk, bread, and green vegetables. A lack of zinc can lead to hair loss. The richest source of zinc are oysters, peas, pulses, butter, and kidney.
Vitamin C. Lack of Vitamin C can cause excessively dry skin and hair. Plenty of fruit and vegetables ensure a good supply.
Vitamin B. Lack of Vitamin B can lead to oily hair conditions.
B2. This is found in meat, poultry, milk, eggs, cereals, and rice.
Niacin. Found in meat, bread, and potatoes.
Pantothenic Acid. This helps keep the hair follicle in good condition. Egg yolks, peanuts, and wheat germ are good sources.
Biotin. A severe lack of this can lead to hair loss. This can be found in nuts and pulses.

Almost everybody loves chocolates- children and adults alike. Who can resist sweet treats and sugar cravings? But did you know that chocolates are not created equal? These instant energy boosters do come in different types. These tidbits of information can help you out to consume chocolates in moderation for a healthier you.

Dark Chocolate Premium-grade dark chocolate contains antioxidants called flavonoids that help maintain the health of our blood vessels and heart. It has no added milk fat, only a much healthier fat from cocoa butter, which naturally comes from cocoa beans. Cocoa butter contains stearic acid, oleic acid and palmitic acid, which alter cholesterol only minimally.

Milk Chocolate

Probably the most popular type of chocolate, milk chocolate has less antioxidant properties and more added fat and sugar. However, its added milk may enrich it with calcium.

White Chocolate

White chocolate does not contain chocolate liquor, which is why some do not consider it as chocolate. It is a mixture of cocoa butter, sugar, milk and vanilla flavoring. It does not provide any antioxidant benefits.

When we talk about aging, we often focus on the lines and age spots of the face. But did you know that the hands are the first to show age? They are complicated appendages, consisting of 27 bones, muscles, ligaments, nerves, blood vessels, a lymphatic system, and ofcourse, nails. We often use our hands so much but they are often taken for granted. Here’s how we can take care of our hands:

The sun is the biggest culprit for aging skin. Applying sunblock, especially when going out, on the back of our hands will go a long way toward retaining their youthfulness.

Our hands are in water more than we realize. Water quickly dries out the thin skin of our hands by removing their natural oils. Keeping the thin skin of our hands moisturized is very important. Apply cream in your hands often.

Wear rubber gloves whenever you can in doing chores like washing dishes, washing our hair, bathing babies, etc.
